Genius Laser

Since 2002, we at TANDZORG.NL have regularly used laser technology. We use the laser for various treatments in periodontology. The laser we use is the Genius laser, an Nd:YAG laser with a specific wavelength of 1064 nanometres. The laser is equipped with spray cooling, and glass fibres of different diameters can be used to deliver the laser energy. We generally use fibres with a diameter of 600 or 400 microns.

The Genius laser is an Nd:YAG laser that uses laser energy at a wavelength of 1064 nanometres. In periodontal treatments, the laser energy is delivered through a thin optical fibre, allowing the dental hygienist to work precisely in and around the periodontal pockets.

The laser energy is absorbed by certain tissues and pigments, particularly blood pigments. This can help to reduce bacteria and inflamed tissue in the periodontal pocket. The laser is also used in combination with conventional periodontal treatment to clean the root surfaces and support the treatment of periodontal disease.

The Genius laser has spray cooling, which helps control the temperature during treatment and makes the procedure more comfortable.

Benefits of the laser’s spray cooling

  • Minimal thermal response
  • Minimal thermal damage
  • Reduced pain
  • Optimal visibility
  • Biofilm removal

How the laser works

  • Removal of inflamed tissue
  • Removal of pathogenic microorganisms
  • Disinfecting effect
  • Absorption of the laser energy causes calculus within the periodontal pocket to become fragmented and softer, making it much easier to remove
  • Control of bleeding, providing better visibility of the treatment area
  • Built-in timer to prevent overheating of the treatment area

General benefits of using the laser in our practice

  • Greater convenience for the dental professional
  • Greater comfort for the patient
  • Increased patient motivation
  • Better visibility of the surface being cleaned, contributing to improved treatment results
  • Easier removal of calculus from periodontal pockets, contributing to improved results
  • Disinfection of the treatment area, contributing to improved results
  • Potential time savings in the long term
  • No contraindications
