Gingivitis en Periodontitis

Sometimes the way you clean your teeth might be insufficiently effective for removing all plaque. It may also be difficult for you to reach certain areas of the mouth. That is why a regular visit to the dental hygienist is necessary to identify oral problems in time and to have them treated. Good oral hygiene is not only important for your teeth and a healthy mouth, but also for your overall health.

Gingivitus
The gum line is an important focus point with regards to plaque. This is because plaque can accumulate there. Plaque produces toxins that irritate our gums. This can cause the gums to become inflamed and begin a chain reaction of redness, swelling and bleeding. This inflammation of your gums is called gingivitis.

Periodontitis
If left untreated, gingivitis can lead to a more severe form of gum disease, called periodontitis. Which is a major cause of tooth loss. With periodontitis the gum tissue pulls away from the teeth, creating pockets where additional bacteria can build up and cause an infection. Periodontitis can cause tooth loss, and can destroy tissue, ligaments and bone loss in the mouth.

Treatment

Our dental hygienists focus on showing you the best way to keep the teeth fee of plaque. They are highly trained in the prevention of gum disease and offer specialist cleaning advice to assist you in achieving healthy standards of oral hygiene.

To visit our dental hygienists, you do not need a referral from your dentist. You can schedule an appointment directly for scaling and polishing. It is important for us to have previously made X-rays and the treatment history from the dentist and / or the previous dental hygienist. You can bring this this information with you during your first visit to our dental hygienist or have it sent by post or by mail.

Laser
TANDZORG.NL has been working with the Genius laser since 2002. For the treatment of periodontitis, this laser is used as an additional treatment for removing and killing bacteria that are located between the tooth and gums. The laser is also used to get rid of the inflamed tissue, which benefits the healing of the gums. Characteristics of inflamed gums such as bleeding and swelling are thereby reduced. The laser breaks down the tartar in the pocket, making it easier to remove. In addition, the laser is also used to heal cold sores and ulcers faster at an early stage. Finally, the laser is part of the treatment of severely sensitive tooth necks. Often no anaesthesia is required to use the laser itself. This causes less inconvenience for you as a patient.
